The Tulsans who gathered Tuesday night to plan the city's transportation future were asked to consider one telling fact: Only about 1 percent of local commuters use public transportation.
The question for participants in PlaniTulsa's final workshop on the city's comprehensive plan update was whether that constitutes a positive or a negative for the city and what should be done about it.
"This is really when you get a chance to play public works director," Andrew Howard, a consultant working with the city on the update, told the nearly 100 participants who gathered at the Centennial Center at Central Park.
Most, it seemed, wanted more options.
